Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the path of my life. Of all of our lives. How we get so discouraged when things don’t go our way or how we want them to. How we can spiral and worry, and become anxious about things that are completely out of our control.
Love is the first example that comes to mind because unfortunately, everyone has had their heart broken.
When we think that someone truly cares for us, we trust them. They see us through high's and low's, and then all of a sudden we lose them. They have left without a trace. You can't get out of bed. It’s difficult to focus on anything. You're broken. Often, we sit around and wonder what went wrong.
What did I do?
Why did this happen?
Why am I so unlovable?
How could I think this person loved me?
A breakup can feel life-defining. I know that even now, months after one, I still have found myself feeling unlovable at times. That I am the problem. That I wasn't good enough. And maybe in the path of someone, I'm not. But that doesn't make my path any less important.
But you can apply this to apartment hunting, your career, your college experience. All paved with let downs and dark times that led the way to great opportunities.
We need to trust our path. Sure we should strive for great things, but if something doesn’t happen, we have to remember that something greater than ourselves is paving the way for something better. Something more aligned with what we truly want in the long run that will make us look back with amazement about how bad we wanted something that was so much less or off the path we’re on now.
You will get through this season of your life, look back and be amazed by your growth and strength, and how you've become a person you proud to be.
